Diabetes Clinic
Grady’s Diabetes Clinic began as an idea of Dr. John K. Davidson in the late 1960s. Dr. Davidson, an Emory attending physician, earned his PhD. under the tutelage of Dr. Charles H. Best, co–discoverer of insulin. The team expanded to include a registered dietitian, podiatrist, medical social worker, financial counselor, eye technician and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team approach, which includes education and lifestyle changes, resulted in a significant drop in diabetes related amputations and other costly diabetes complications.
Today, the Diabetes Clinic uses that same multidisciplinary approach to teach patients to better self-manage their diabetes. Patients are evaluated by a team of nurse providers, certified diabetes educators, nutritionists, podiatrists and physician specialized in diabetes care. In addition to management of blood glucose, the clinic monitors and treats high blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol and lipid levels. Grady’s Diabetes Clinic screens patients as recommended by the American Diabetes Association for diabetes complications and provides appropriate treatment.
Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence
The Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence (GCCE) at Grady Health System was established by the Georgia Cancer Coalition as part of a statewide network of exceptional cancer care services. As the first Cancer Center for Excellence in the state, the $28 million state-of-the-art facility provides quality care and support services to cancer patients and their families, including cancer prevention and screening, treatment, research and education. The facility is also home to the $3.3 million Avon Foundation Breast Health Center.
Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center
The Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Grady Health System is the world’s first 24-hour comprehensive primary care clinic for patients with sickle cell syndromes.
Grady Burn Center
Grady’s Burn Center provides complete care to burn victims of all ages whether their burns result from flames, scalds, chemical or electrical accidents, and includes those requiring complicated wound management. Patients suffering from traumatic burns are cared for in the center’s Intensive Care Unit until stable. Beyond critical care, the Burn Center offers outpatient services for minor burns and follow-up care for major burns.
Georgia Poison Control Center
We provide free poison treatment advice to residents of Georgia 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year, reducing the severity of poisonings and often times saving lives.
The John N. Goddard Memorial Chapel
The John N. Goddard Memorial Chapel at Grady – named after John N. Goddard, a well-known Atlanta businessman and philanthropist – serves as a sacred and peaceful space for worship for people of all faiths. For over 50 years, the chapel has functioned as a home away from home for employees, patients, families and community members who have used it for everything from weddings and religious holiday celebrations to a place for daily prayer and comfort in times of need.
Infectious Disease Program
The Infectious Disease Program (IDP) is one of the largest, most comprehensive facilities dedicated to the treatment of advanced HIV/AIDS in the United States. Founded in 1986, the IDP and its onsite affiliates provide various medical and support services to approximately 5000 eligible men, women, adolescents, and children living with HIV/AIDS.
The IDP integrates primary internal medicine and Infectious Disease subspecialty care in the Main, Family and Transition Clinics. Staffed by 30 doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, 20 nurses and more than 100 interagency staff. Our care teams seamlessly provide onsite medical, support and community services.
To quality for care in the IDP, adult referrals must have a previous AIDS diagnosis and/or a nadir CD4 count below 200. Pediatric and adolescent patients have no such restrictions.
Marcus Stroke & Neuroscience Center
Every 45 seconds, someone in the U.S. experiences one or more symptoms of stroke. Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in this country. It’s also the third-leading cause of death in Georgia, which is located in the heart of the ‘Stroke Belt.” In Atlanta alone, 41 percent of all adults have a family member who has had a stroke.
Marcus Trauma Center
Grady’s nationally acclaimed Marcus Trauma Center treats adult medical, surgical, and trauma patients. Doctors and staff see more than 100,000 patients each year – that’s more than 300 patients a day.
Neighborhood Health Centers
The Grady Neighborhood Health Centers provide everything from routine check-ups to family planning, diabetes screenings, cholesterol checks, stress management, nutrition counseling, vaccinations, cholesterol checks, glaucoma screenings, back-to-school physicals, blood pressure readings – and so much more – for both children and adults. You can get prescriptions filled at most centers, and interpreter services are usually available.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Grady’s Perinatal Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) serves more than 40 counties in the north Georgia region. Premature and high-risk babies are cared for by a dedicated staff of neonatologists and neonatal nurses in our NICU. Our Angel II Neonatal Transport is a special mobile neonatal intensive care unit that stabilizes and transports sick and/or premature infants to Grady to receive special care.
